Review: |
| In Jim Enright's The Golden Touch, we
have an intriguing story about corporate espionage within the world of high class perfumes
and models crossed with the well known children's fable about King Midas. A very powerful
and greedy bitch, Kristen Powers(Crystal Gold) has in her possession a perfect perfume
formula that could make her company millions. Peter North plays the head of a competing
fragrance company and knows he will be ruined if he can't synthesize it first. After double crossing one of her own heartbroken perfume chemists and stealing a compound that can turn anything to gold, Kristen sets out to destroy her competition. The question is can she pull it off before the her "golden touch" goes to her head? Most of the sex scenes in The Golden Touch were pretty good and had a decent variety of camera angles. For you fans of the close-up shot... this film has plenty of great ones. My favorite had to be the opening girl/girl session between Kristen and her maid(April Adams). And since girl/girl scenes are not always my number one choice, this is definitely an accomplishment. Tera Heart is always fun to look at, and she and Steven St. Croix showed us that they could have a really good time, too. I also had to laugh when I realized one of the actor's lines came right out of Dennis Leary's Asshole song. The biggest problem I had with The Golden Touch was the overall production quality. Although the close-up shots were quite good, the remaining scenes, especially the non-sex scenes, were very poorly lit. Poor lighting can really make a respectable movie look like an amateur project. The Golden Touch had more scenes with shadows than most of the videos of 50th wedding anniversaries I've seen. Another technical aspect I would like to point out is that some of the scenes lacked a little in the sound engineering department. The most likely culprits for this problem are poor mic placement and the actors simply not saying their lines loud enough. So in conclusion, outside of the nice close-up
shots, and a decent amount of action, I found myself a little disappointed with The
Golden Touch . While the storyline and the script had potential and the overall
direction wasn't bad, the poor production quality really brought this one down. It's still
worth watching for the close-ups... but you really shouldn't expect to be impressed by
much else. All things considered, The Golden Touch gets a 3 from this
reviewer. |
