Review: |
| You'll find a cast of incredibly hot women in The Virgin Canvas, along with some experienced male talent. Add some amazing sets and solid production values, and you have the formula for what should be a pretty good porno flick. It's therefore confusing why the sex in this movie is so bland. There's a little bit of a plot: leading lady Kate Frost is accepted to the ultra-selective Branford Art Institute. Or is it the Branford College of Fine Art (not Arts)? Or perhaps it's the Hillcrest School of Fine Arts (as described on the DVD packaging). Take your pick, it doesn't really matter because that's about the extent of the whole plot. The plot really only establishes a setting in which the students and teachers can have sex as they go about their artwork, there's really no climactic moment or conflicts. If it wasn't for all the tattoos, any one of these girls could easily be Playboy centerfolds. Sondra Hall has an absolutely amazing rack. Gorgeous knockout Lezley Zen also has incredible tits and a figure to match. You get hard just looking at them. The sets in The Virgin Canvas are also extremely impressive. They got a really nice mansion for this movie. Good lighting, decent camerawork, and appropriate music round out the technical aspects that give everything the performers need to make a good film. I'll forgive the silly costume and makeup choices made for Joelean's scene because of the artsy nature of the plot, but otherwise the costumes are effective. With all of these factors going for it (besides the weak plot), what went wrong with the sex in this movie? The best explanation I could dream up is that the performers were told to make a couples' movie. It's not all bad, but the chemistry between the performers just wasn't there, with the exception perhaps of Lezley Zen and Lee Stone They have the most aggressive sex you'll see in the film. Good stuff here, Lezley's so damn hot she can't help but be great. Bugsy gives it a 3, useful as a couples' movie for introducing a girlfriend to porn. The enthusiast will want to stick to harder stuff. |
