| Scene 2 - other=cum swap Let's see, Katsumi on the cover, also starring Vicky Vette and Rita Faltoyano, produced and directed by Manuel Ferrara. Sounds like it has possibilities. Of course, it's from Red Light District so it will be a gonzo flick with a couch and harsh lighting...wrong!! This movie, and it can truly be called a movie, gave me the biggest shock since I saw Andrew Blake's House of Dreams. It showed me what porn can be when some thought and creativity are applied. Manuel Ferrara takes us into the erotic dreams of a girl in such a compelling way that it's impossible not to get caught up in it. The directing, production, editing, dialogue, costumes and story are as good as anything you'll see, and I'm not just talking about porn. Casting Katsumi for the lead is brilliant because of her little girl naiveté, limited English and seething sexuality, she's ideal for the part. For most directors, that would be enough, but Ferrara takes us through her illogically logical erotic dreams in a perfect blend of the bizarre and sex and does in such a subtle way as to convince the viewer that it's a most natural experience. Katsumi is already known as a scorchingly hot performer, but here she shows her ability to act or at least her ability to be herself on camera. The limited dialogue helped. Rita Faltoyano, Vicky Vette, Karina Kay, Jada Fire and Victoria Von Helkine all turned in great performances and re-enforced the idea of Katsumi's little girl persona. Manuel Ferrara, in addition to directing, plays the male lead and object of Katsumi's dreams. His high energy and attention to his female partners makes him ideal for the role and one of the few male performers that could pull it off. Michael Stefano and John Strong are more than able as back up studs. Stefano's scene in the butcher shop with Katsumi and Vicky Vette is another highlight. There's even a midget, as Napoleon leads Katsumi through her dream world...nice touch. This DVD is loaded with extras. Besides the obligatory chapter starts and web info, there's also an audio commentary option and cum shot re-cap. There's eighteen minutes of BTS footage and an enormous slide show with over one-hundred and forty pictures. Rita, Victoria, Jada, Karina and Katsumi do interviews. There's photo shoot video for Vicky, Jada, Rita, Karina and Katsumi (two to four minutes for each girl). Finally, there's a striptease video (really more of a pose and tease) for each of the girls. I'm not a big fan of audio commentary, but the rest of it is pretty good. Porn has been stuck in a rut for quite a while now. There's gonzo, which is so simple that every performer thinks they can be a director. It lacks imagination and is pretty limited. It has reduced porn to an acrobatic performance and a girl can get work if she can do certain tricks. It has flooded the porn ranks with girls that think they are stars because they can take a DP or slobber more than the other girls. Girls with little or no sex appeal can work in the industry because of it. There is some good gonzo being produced, but most of it is just mediocre or worse. On the other hand, there are feature films. This has come to be synonymous with mainstream rip off, lame comedies and so called couples' films. The mainstream copies look just like that, copies. With poorer dialogue, production, acting and directing. It's easy to make and plays well on cable TV, but it lacks any originality or eroticism. The comedies are lower down on the quality scale and do more to show the lack of talent in all areas, but they also play well on cable TV because the only thing they offend is taste and sensibility. As for couples' movies, I don't understand them. Any couple that's into watching porn together is way past the drivel contained in these Harlequin romance flicks. Call it like it is, these aren't for couples, they're for single girls. Porn has been so intent on getting mainstream recognition, that they've made themselves laughable. Instead of being an entertainment medium unto themselves they've copied Hollywood, poorly, to the point of draining all the sexuality out of the industry. In order to not be offensive, porn has stopped progressing and growing creatively. I don't know the solution, but this movie is a step in the right direction. An erotic movie about eroticism, done with creativity and care, thoughtfully presented with quality and starring hot women. Ferrara hit it out of the park with this film and I hope it's not his last time. Not only is this an extremely sexual movie, but it's one that you'll want to watch more than once without fast forwarding. Put this one on your "must see" list. PT says 5, and thank you. |
