Review:

Melissa(Gina Ryder) is moving into a new apartment, meeting and getting to know her neighbors. Melissa doesn't think much of her neighbors, or her friends for that matter. Her imagination has convinced her that her neighbor Bill(Mark Davis) is a serial killer who's luring young women to his apartment, killing them and then cutting them up and hauling them out in garbage bags. One of his victims was a girl named Chelsey(Devon). Trying to find out the "truth", Melissa breaks into Bill's apartment and snoops around. She finds a lot of video equipment and tapes of Bill and the girls having sex. Bill comes home and almost catches her. After he leaves, Melissa sets up a hidden video camera of her own to catch him in the act. The next day Melissa retrieves her camera to view the evidence. The tape mysteriously has a blank section that makes it look like Bill may have done something sinister. Melissa, who's been looking for a "dangerous man" to spice up her life, confronts Bill with her suspicions, telling him that she doesn't want to turn him in, she just wants to hear all the details. After a heated session in the sack, Melissa pushes Bill for the details and starts to search the apartment for more evidence. Chelsey shows up and Bill introduces her as his roommate. Melissa realizes that her imagination has gotten the best of her.

This is a very thin story line with poorly developed characters and culminates in an extremely lame final scene. The dialogue isn't too bad and Gina's acting abilities are shown nicely despite the writing. The music is tolerable and thankfully not overpowering. Simple and effective sets are the big plus. The directing, editing and camera work, along with Vivid's trademark poor film quality, are the major drawbacks. There are too many extreme close-ups, often out of focus. The usual cable-to-hardcore editing that makes for a choppy scene resembling a collage of unrelated poses. For some reason, that I as yet have not been able to fathom, Devon's on screen presence in Vivid's films has been limited, for the most part, to shots from her neck down.

Being a Gina Ryder fan, I enjoyed getting to see her use her acting talents as well as the rest of her assets. She's shown that she's just as comfortable working a role as she is in a gonzo shoot. Devon looked as good as ever. Mark delivered the driving sex scenes that his fans have come to expect. Even though the story was weak, the cast persevered and carried it off as well as they could. My main gripe was the close-ups that showed the action as only a blur and poor framing of the shots. That being said, this movie still has it's moments and is worth renting to see Gina's performances and Devon sucking Mark's pole.

PT says 3, this one needs lots of help from the remote.
