|Scenes 7 and 8 - other=bonus scene
The nurse theme has been done to death, but director Bud Lee plays it off very well in Angels of Mercy. The plot is a little on the thin side. A group of new nurses, the angels of mercy, arrive at a hospice where terminally ill patients are waiting to die. Of course, they use all their beauty and talents to cheer up their charges.
The six sex scenes are all excellent. Summer Storm and Steve Hatcher finish the opening scene with the only anal action in the movie, and it is marvelously performed and filmed. The experienced Miko Lee and the very appealing Lezley Zen take on Gino Greco in a hot three-way. There are two veggie scenes, which might seem like a little much, but neither of them disappoints and both are worth watching. It's a chance to catch southern belle Stormy Waters early in her career. At this point, she still hadn't done any boy/girl scenes, yet. Later, Miko fans get another look at her in an excellent blowjob scene with John West.
The girls in Angels of Mercy are all very gorgeous and that's what you're looking for when you pick out a porno flick. On top of that, everyone in the movie can act, or at least Bud Lee did enough rehearsals or filmed enough takes so that the characters are passable. It's a nice bonus when the performers attempt to follow the script and act well. Even with a weak plot, Bud Lee does a good job of getting the story across.
Some interesting editing choices make for some anticipation on the viewer's part. I wouldn't go so far as to say it is suspenseful, but there was definitely some quality moviemaking going on here. Technically the movie is almost flawless. Good camerawork, good lighting, and even sound levels make a seamless production. The music that accompanies the sex scenes is well selected. If you're watching closely, there is one small blooper, a fly makes its way across the screen in the middle of one sex scene.
The DVD extras are on the second side of the disc. The lengthy behind-the-scenes section opens with a pulsating, energetic collage of backstage shots, and continues with some excellent footage showing the making of the movie. We get to see the girls during their still-photo sessions and getting their makeup done. There are also interviews with the stars along with some glimpses into the nuts-and-bolts work of making the movie. Two very tasty bonus scenes are included, along with a photo gallery and web links.
Angels of Mercy is a quality production and makes a good movie for couples while still containing enough steam for the lone enthusiast. Bugsy says 4, leaning towards a 5.
